A Word About Color Matching

At ColorWorks Inc. in Republic, Missouri, we package first-rate products, including aerosols and caulking, and we will work hard to satisfy your every need. We want you to be totally satisfied with your purchase, but we need to explain a few things about the nature of our industry. Please note that this isn't an exhaustive discourse on the issues of our color matching services. It's just a little insight into the reality of the process.

Considerations

Matching a colored caulk or aerosol may seem like an easy task at first, but as we researched the process ourselves, we discovered several factors that may affect the outcome. It also depends on the application you are trying to meet. Ask yourself the following questions:

• What Sheen (Flat, Glossy, or In Between) Do You Want In the Dried Product?
• Do You Need an Acrylic or Silicone Caulk?
• Are You Trying To Match a Specific Color Brand Such As Ralph Lauren?
• Is the Product You Are Trying To Match Mixed In the Original Base?
• Is It a Color Match Done By Another Paint Store?
• Will the Color Match Have To Be Perfect?

How Colors Are Perceived

It is also important to note that people vary in their ability to distinguish between slight variations in color. We have discovered that in most cases, our products meet or exceed the needs of the job at hand. But it would be unrealistic to say that in all cases the caulk or aerosol will blend "invisibly" next to the original color.

Example of Color Variation

Take, for instance, a manufacturer of vinyl siding and guttering. They may have half a dozen color choices for their customers. In our experience, as they produce materials, the colors are slightly different from run-to-run. Some are a little darker or have a trace more of yellow. Whether the caulking we produce now will match the same manufacturers' siding in three months is difficult to say. However, we can confidently say that the color will still be far closer than anything you can buy at the hardware store. In addition, the slight difference in color may not even be visible except on very close scrutiny.

Other Factors with Color

Other factors such as age, exposure to sunlight, and surface texture all come into play as to how we perceive color. Most of the time, this will not make a difference in the choice of product. However, we don't want to misrepresent ourselves. Instead, we want to educate you about the quality of our products and their intended uses.
